About Me

I remember sitting on the woodland floor staring at the trees towering over me, wondering 'should I buy this?' It seemed kinda crazy really. I mean, who owns a wood? I've never met one. Why am thinking of buying a slice of countryside. People are supposed to buy nice cars and stuff aren't they? But I'm thinking of owning a piece of woodland. To cut trees down and also nurture their growth. To be a guardian of the forest. It seemed a bit mad but I did it nevertheless.

The wood was an idea that sort of crept up on me. I'd been idling thinking about a more interesting way to use some savings than just stash it in the bank. I'd also become more keen on developing a more sustainable approach to my life. One aspect of the goal was to convert our home to be less reliant on fossil fuels and use more renewable energy sources. Having a log fire was one aspect of a broader goal. After a little research I discovered that owning a little piece of woodland was actually feasible and that there were small plots within my budget that could provide all the logs we could need.

In the end the idea snowballed and got a life of its own. And here I am. It's not just about logs for the fire. I hope to learn not only about lookking after woodland but also about the wildlife there. Maybe I'll learn a little about myself as I go long this journey too.
