Book Club

Since buying the wood I've also picked up quite a few books with a thirst for knowledge. So here's a few reviews for you.

The Woodland Way: Ben Law. 5 stars
Ben appeared in the public eye through his appearance on Grand Designs with a unique house build within the coppice he manages. His wealth of experience goes back much further and this his first book describes his approach to woodland management. It's a recommended read for those wishing to learn about coppicing and a more balanced approach to working with woods.

The Woodland Year: Ben Law. 4 stars
Another book from Ben. This one covers each month in turn with Ben describing his activities with additional comments each month from varied woodland workers from furniture makers to a woman working woodland with horses in a traditional way. It's more of a coffee table book. Something to flick through and delight at people making their own way in woodland. It's less informative than the Woodland Way but does a better job of capturing the spirit and romance of woodland life plus the rhythm of the seasons. It's for day dreamers wanting inspiration.

Managing Small Woods 4 stars
Does what it says on the tin. A pratical guide to looking after a small wood. Similar to the Woodland Way and full of useful advice.
