This is my current wood shelter.
I'm still unsure of whether to build a permanent construction. This has the advantage that I can move it around the wood which I think suits me better. I can imagine that if you are splitting large volumes using heavy machinery then creating a permanent log store makes sense but I'll stick with my more nimble and moveable approach for now.
I've got two of these but the other is already showing signs of wear after the weight of snow pulled out some of the eyelets. Probably a combination of it being a bit weak and the sloppy way I'd put it up with it simply slung over a rope tied between two trees.
My second version uses a length of birch as a crossbar and seems to be holding up better.
I'm seasoning the logs at the wood as we have a small garden and simply don't have the room. I have built a small log store for the back garden which is filled with logs ready to burn. It's a very open design to keep air flowing. I added a tarpaulin to one side that is the most exposed to the elements. Apart from fitting some stronger cross struts to the bottom it seems to be working out well.
The cats seem to like their climbing frame too and sit side inside the top compartment, which was intended for kindling but they had other ideas.
Hi Jez,
ReplyDeleteNice way of doing a temporary shelter, and thanks for the comment on our blog. I guess you must know Tracy through SWOG?
Cheers, Mike
Hi Jez,
ReplyDelete(and hi Mike !)
Great stuff - a nice layout for the blog too - but I just thought I'd let you know that I can't see the photos in the blog text.
