For a bit of history on this motion sensitive camera see here. First up is this cheeky chap snapped by the the wood pile:
I hadn't really been too sure about squirrels in the wood. I assumed they were present given they're so widespread but they are much harder to spot than when you see them in a park or garden where they are more used to humans and have less cover. They are a pest really but cute nevertheless. The camera also snapped this deer on the edge of the frame:
My what big ears you've got! Good to get a picture
of one of the residents.
The infrared night option works too. This woodland beasty was caught coming back from the pub after my first overnight camping trip.
So the camera does work. It still had charge left too so either the batteries last ages or the solar panel is getting some light to recharge. Either way I can be confident of leaving it in place for a while at a time.
So overall it's been a good start. It's a little disappointing that it didn't actually take many photos despite being at the wood for a couple of weeks. I expect this is because it was positioned under one of the tarpaulins, which may make the animals wary. Next I might put it somewhere it's more likely to snap the deer. Or I might set it higher up in one of the big oaks to see if it can capture an owl swooping around at night.
