Pieces Of Eight

Yarr. I found me a couple of likely shipmates to seek ol' Blackbeards treasure. We set out with a map on the high seas in search of dubloons and pieces of eight.

I'm not auditioning for Pirates of the Caribbean, rather a day in the woods with my niece and nephew. I'd made a treasure map for them using PowerPoint that involved finding eight places on the map. Each place contained an answer on a piece of wood to a series of wood related questions. These included names of woodland flowers, deer, timber tools etc. The kids then got a bag of treasure for completing the game.

It worked out pretty well. A couple of the map points were in spots a little overgrown so a few scratched shins were endured but all added to the adventure. A little lunch rounded off a good day and it was great to be able to give the kids something to do down the wood.

Next plan is a camping trip, probably just the nephew and my brother this time. I think I'll need to come up with something else to do. He's currently into survival so maybe making shelters would work.

It would be good to do some wildlife spotting but maybe that requires a bit too much patience for a nine year old.
